Lexmark Poland

Lean manufacturing and regional manufacturing/customisation

Lexmark manufactured 92% of cartridges in the region of consumption in 2022, maintaining the high rate of regional manufacturing targeted. Regional manufacturing improves supply chain efficiency and helps Lexmark respond more quickly to customer needs. It also benefits the environment by reducing GHG emissions and providing jobs for people in the regions where our cartridges are used most.

Return-for-remanufacture

To ensure more recycled plastics find their way into new products, Lexmark partners to remanufacture our cartridges. Used cartridges are collected through LCCP or CollectedbyLexmark and are then sent to the LCCP plant. From there, cartridges are unpacked, checked, and packed in bulk for shipment to the assembly line. From the LCCP plant, empty cartridges are then processed for remanufacturing. Plastics, metals and toner from Lexmark end-of-life cartridges are processed to create brand-new Lexmark cartridges. The high-performing remanufactured cartridges are designed with the same engineering specifications and assessed with the same quality tests as new cartridges. Continual improvement of our process increases the amount of material we reuse and provides Lexmark with the opportunity to assist the European Commission in achieving ten million tons of recycled plastics in new products by 2025.

LCCP cartridge remanufacturing

Lexmark makes a clear choice toward planned durability, intentionally engineering long-life devices that last seven years or more. Device life is extended further through remanufactured and repaired parts and supplies. Longer-life devices save finite resources, reduce waste going to landfills and lower carbon emissions.

Devices returned to Lexmark go through a process that assesses if they can be remanufactured for reuse. Once a device is returned, trained technicians carefully inspect it. If a returned device still includes a hard drive, it is removed securely and physically shredded: we take data security seriously. The technicians follow specific, established criteria to determine if a device can be refurbished. Only those devices that meet these criteria are remanufactured and placed back into the market good as new. Based on page counts, usage analytics and other factors, we know devices will have substantial life remaining. During remanufacturing, we replace commonly worn components with genuine Lexmark parts. If the device cannot be reused, parts are harvested for the refurbishment process. Lexmark works with recyclers to reclaim parts that can be used to refurbish printers, which keeps the printers in service longer and reduces the need to recycle used hardware.
